You will undertake original research focusing on the languages, literature, philosophy, or culture of the classical world, spanning from Homer to the late Roman Empire, as well as exploring how ancient traditions influence contemporary culture.
Our department has broad expertise in supervising diverse topics within Greek and Roman literature. Swansea's research strengths particularly shine in areas like ancient narrative works, the influence of early texts on Hellenistic and imperial fiction, Greek tragedy, classical philosophy, and Greco-Roman political theory.
Operating at an advanced academic level, you'll explore fundamental concepts and analytical methods central to understanding Greek and Roman civilizations.
This program cultivates the research capabilities essential for excellence in any classics or classical civilization discipline, with additional support from campus-based skills development initiatives.
You'll refine critical research abilities necessary for top-tier work in Classics, complemented by university-wide training programs. Opportunities include presenting your findings at departmental seminars and the School of Culture and Communication's postgraduate conference.
From your second year onward, you may lead undergraduate tutorials and seminars, receiving both training and compensation. Approved conference attendance or external research may also qualify for financial assistance.
