Pursuing a PhD or MPhil in History allows you to engage in an extensive research project driven by your personal interests. The full-time PhD program spans three years (six years part-time), while the MPhil requires two years of full-time study (four years part-time). For the PhD, you'll submit a thesis of maximum 100,000 words, compared to 60,000 words for the MPhil. Both degrees conclude with an oral defense of your thesis (viva voce examination). These programs involve original research under faculty supervision, resulting in a thesis that offers new insights into historical understanding.
