The foundational years of life play a pivotal role in shaping behaviors that impact our long-term health and wellness. With rapid societal and technological shifts, we must adopt new perspectives on fostering supportive environments for children and youth development. Our research focuses on four key areas: Health and Welfare examines elements affecting young people's wellbeing, including healthcare access, child protection issues, developmental disabilities, recreational activities, and housing insecurity. Student-led studies have recently explored children's play preferences across settings, early education methodologies, and support systems for children in care. Child and Youth Identity investigates how young individuals navigate personal agency within their social contexts and broader societal frameworks that shape their decisions and prospects. Child Development analyzes diverse influences on learning and growth from infancy through teenage years, including how these impacts manifest in children's play patterns. Health Psychology focuses on psychological aspects of wellness promotion and designing interventions to encourage healthy habits among youth and expectant mothers. By joining the College of Human and Health Sciences, you'll engage with a vibrant research community offering interdisciplinary collaboration and connections with national and international organizations and policymakers. This ensures your work remains relevant to contemporary health and social care landscapes while informing broader practice.
