Over two years (MPhil) or three years (PhD), you'll conduct an independent research project in biological sciences with guidance from our world-class researchers. Your project will develop through participation in various research activities including seminars, workshops, lab work, and fieldwork, along with joining one of our active research groups. Our current major research initiatives include: SEACAMS (Sustainable Expansion of the Applied Coastal and Marine Sectors) - enhancing Wales' commercial marine sector through university-business research collaborations; the Algal Biotechnology for Wales Knowledge Transfer Centre - offering businesses expert guidance on microalgal technologies and industry-focused research; EnAlgae - working to decrease CO2 emissions and reliance on non-renewable energy in North-West Europe; Ecojel - addressing both the benefits and challenges of jellyfish populations in the Irish Sea; LRCI Marine (Low Carbon Research Institute) - a Welsh academic partnership conducting research to support sustainable marine development; and the WISE programme (Welsh Institutes for Sustainable Environments) - helping industries improve the environmental sustainability of their products and processes.
