Swansea University's English Literature and French with a Year Abroad program offers a dynamic and rigorous academic journey. You'll explore centuries of literary works while immersing yourself in France's vibrant cultural heritage, renowned as a global hub for the arts. This degree equips you with versatile, in-demand skills that unlock diverse career paths. A highlight includes spending a year living and studying or working in France. The curriculum spans national and world literatures, covering Renaissance texts, Gothic novels, 19th-century works, modern fiction, cultural studies, creative writing, alongside intensive French language study, literature analysis, and translation techniques. You'll develop expertise in understanding contemporary France's influence across Europe and globally.

Qualification Requirements
Our standard entry requirement is ABB-BBC (UCAS tariff points 112-128) or equivalent. All offers are made following a review of the application form, predicted/achieved grades and subjects, the reference and personal statement. We also accept a range of advanced level qualifications including: International Baccalaureate 32, Welsh Baccalaureate - grade equivalent to A-level, BTEC, Access to Higher Education and Open University qualifications, and Extended Project.
A GCSE at minimum grade C (4) in a modern foreign language is preferable but not essential.
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above which must include relevant language (French, Spanish, German, Italian). All language applications will be considered on merit.
For applicants whose first language is not English, we require IELTS 6.0 overall (with a minimum of 5.5 in each component) or equivalent English test. TOEFL (IBT) - 79,
