The MSc in Economics and Environment program integrates environmental studies with development economics and political economy.
Leveraging SOAS's distinctive strengths, including its proficiency in development economics, interdisciplinary environmental approach, and regional expertise in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, this program offers a specialized focus in one of economics' fastest-growing fields.
The intersection of development and environmental impact, along with resource accessibility, represents one of the most pressing disciplines that has emerged in recent decades and now stands as a central academic focus. At SOAS, we adopt a comprehensive view of environmental studies, with course offerings spanning diverse areas like natural resources, agriculture, economic development, finance, and region-specific studies.
All enrolled students must complete a mandatory introductory course in Mathematics and Statistics before commencing this program.
Participants may pursue dissertation opportunities jointly supervised with leading global institutions such as the International Trade Centre (ITC), the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the World Bank.
