Our Master of Arts in Legal Studies program offers students the chance to learn at our dynamic School of Law, which specializes in the legal frameworks and issues of the Global South, with particular emphasis on Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
Students can customize their curriculum by selecting from diverse modules that explore comparative regional law, trade regulations, law and development, commercial law (including intellectual property), human rights, environmental legislation, Islamic law, conflict resolution, and international legal systems.
Every SOAS module is crafted to not only familiarize students with fundamental legal concepts but also to demonstrate how standard legal frameworks function within non-Western societal and cultural contexts.
Furthermore, students have the option to take courses outside the School of Law, accessing SOAS's renowned offerings in languages, cultural studies, arts, humanities, political science, economics, finance, and more. The program culminates with a dissertation, allowing students to conduct in-depth research on a topic of their choosing.
