The BA Music combined program offers a distinctive chance to explore musical traditions across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and their worldwide diasporas. SOAS Music is globally recognized for bringing together performers, industry experts, and scholars from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Learners examine music through multiple lenses such as ethnomusicology, anthropology, political studies, and historical contexts, while exploring a wide spectrum of musical traditions from Asian and African cultures. In their second and third years, students can specialize in particular regions or investigate cross-cultural topics ranging from gender in music to the music industry.
Performance plays a key role in this program, allowing participants to master various musical traditions.
This curriculum blends theoretical knowledge with hands-on training, covering research methodologies, critical analysis, fieldwork techniques, audio recording, podcast production, presentation skills, and musical performance.
Certain dual-subject programs conclude in three years, while others span four years and incorporate an international study year.
