The BA in East Asian Studies integrates language learning with interdisciplinary coursework focused on East Asia. This program places more emphasis on developing a comprehensive regional understanding compared to our other area-specific degrees. Alongside core subject modules, students can take annual language courses in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean. The program's flexible design permits either switching languages each year or advancing through multiple proficiency levels in a single language. We welcome both absolute beginners and those with prior experience. Students can progress through four language competency levels (up to CEFR C1), with advanced options including literature and film studies, plus language-focused dissertation opportunities for those surpassing the highest level.
