This Joint Honours program allows you to equally study Comparative Literature and Culture alongside History of Art and Visual Culture.
The History of Art and Visual Culture component lets you examine diverse visual forms - ranging from paintings and sculptures to photography, film, fashion, and more - spanning from the early modern period to contemporary times. You'll analyze artworks from around the globe, gaining skills to understand and evaluate images and cultural artifacts across different societies. You'll learn from faculty in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures who bring specialized research and curatorial expertise, helping you examine various media's expressive potential through core courses and elective modules covering major developments in art and cinema.
Comparative Literature and Culture (CLC) provides a global perspective on literature while incorporating studies of film, philosophy, and visual arts. This interdisciplinary approach examines cultural transformations across locations, historical periods, and genres, revealing how they influence our perception and representation of an evolving world. Royal Holloway's distinctive CLC program fosters culturally aware, innovative thinkers with adaptable intellectual skills.
