Historians and literary critics frequently examine identical texts, yet they apply distinct perspectives and analytical techniques. This combined history and English literature program allows you to explore and practice both interpretive approaches. By mastering detailed textual examination and narrative techniques, you'll develop into a historian with keen source awareness and a compelling writing voice. When evaluating historical causation debates and contrasting event interpretations, you'll transform into a literary analyst with nuanced understanding of literature's social, political, and cultural frameworks. These complementary fields enhance each other, and UEA's diverse faculty collaborates to offer a uniquely adaptable curriculum. You determine your own balance between literary and historical studies throughout your degree - maintaining equal module distribution or gradually focusing on either discipline.
