This Joint Honours program blends English and Classical Studies, allowing you to explore English literature alongside ancient Greek and Roman culture and texts (taught through English translations).
The English component spans from Beowulf to contemporary Booker Prize winners, covering the complete historical spectrum of English literature while staying current with modern developments - including opportunities for creative writing.
You'll examine foundational English works, deepen your Shakespearean knowledge, appreciate Renaissance masterpieces, explore 18th century perspectives, and investigate Victorian literature. The flexible curriculum ensures comprehensive knowledge of major periods, genres, authors, and concepts while offering diverse electives. Options include studying Modernist and Postmodernist movements, American literature, literary theory, creative writing workshops, and contemporary global English literatures.
