Comparative Literature and Culture (CLC) allows you to examine worldwide literary works while delving into film, philosophy, and visual arts. This interdisciplinary approach presents a rich variety of content while concentrating on contextual elements—locations, eras, and styles—to understand how major cultural changes influence our perception, representation, and interpretation of an evolving world. Royal Holloway's CLC program offers a distinctive and thought-provoking degree that cultivates culturally aware, innovative, and flexible thinkers.
We've designed this degree to let you customize it according to your developing interests, selecting from our exceptionally diverse array of captivating options spanning continents and centuries—from ancient times to modern day, encompassing novels, poetry, philosophy, cinema, and art. Our studies will take us from Ancient Greece to modern-day New York, from Cuba to Korea, exploring everything from epic tales to detective stories, and from classical tragedy to avant-garde expressions. CLC provides the opportunity to study texts originally composed in various languages, all available in English translation.
