The Centre for Translation and Interpreting fosters a stimulating academic setting for both specialized and cross-disciplinary research. Renowned as a hub of scholarly excellence exploring European and global languages, literature, history, linguistics, visual arts, and cultural identities, the Centre operates with an innovative and progressive research philosophy. The field of interpreting is experiencing rapid growth and evolution. We encourage creative research proposals that examine interpreting through either practice-based or theoretical approaches across diverse domains and methodologies.
As a researcher, you'll demonstrate intellectual curiosity in exploring multiple forms and dimensions of interpreting in global contexts. Your investigations might span specialized areas such as real-time interpretation, sequential interpretation, corporate interpretation, community interpretation, judicial interpretation, sign language mediation, visual text conversion, and numerous other applications. You'll gain access to an extensive network of local, national, and global partnerships with premier translation institutions worldwide, spanning Brazil, China, France, Greece, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Poland, Spain, the UAE, and the United States. You'll collaborate with faculty members whose research enjoys international recognition, covering an expansive spectrum of interpreting and translation disciplines including sequential and simultaneous interpretation, visual text conversion, digital and media environments, literary works, travel narratives, global development initiatives, theatrical arts, interpretive theory, historical perspectives, educational approaches, sacred texts, geographical studies, museum contexts, captioning services, audio narration, and inclusive communication solutions.
