The field of Biological Sciences covers a wide spectrum of bioscience topics, ranging from molecular studies to ecosystem investigations, including:
Biodiversity, classification systems, and environmental preservation
Cellular and tissue organization, operations, and biological processes
Environmental interactions and organismal behavior
Structural and functional characteristics of microbes, protists, fungi, flora, and fauna
Heredity principles and evolutionary processes
The MSci in Biological Science is a research-driven program. Participants acquire comprehensive expertise through research-oriented learning. In their final year, students engage in an intensive research environment, honing specialized investigative abilities by undertaking a full-time research initiative.
Throughout years 1-3, learners develop hands-on laboratory and fieldwork competencies to examine and manipulate biological specimens, incorporating relevant physical, chemical, and biological assessment techniques applicable to laboratory, field, and research contexts. Third-year participants benefit from state-of-the-art research infrastructure spanning molecular and ecological domains during their research module.
Professional Studies variants incorporate a 46-week industry placement between years 2 and 3. Acquired competencies encompass: Data compilation, statistical evaluation and interpretation, problem-solving, knowledge application, digital tools for information management and presentation, plus the cultivation of cognitive, interpersonal, and collaborative abilities for career advancement and postgraduate pursuits.
