This joint program is delivered by the Centre for Global Public Health alongside the Centre for Psychiatry. Students in this course will explore mental health through cultural lenses. Mental health practitioners will engage with a comprehensive public health curriculum that includes: foundational epidemiology and statistical training, health systems policy analysis (covering financing and workforce policies), social determinants of health, medical anthropology, and research methodology with emphasis on evidence and knowledge systems. The program further examines cultural and global viewpoints in mental healthcare. Current UK mental health research and practice often maintains a Eurocentric focus, potentially overlooking patients' cultural contexts. In our interconnected world, cross-cultural awareness is vital - you'll draw knowledge from anthropology, sociology, geography, psychiatry, and psychology. The program culminates with an independent research project in mental healthcare, policy, or public mental health.
