This teaching program equips graduates with the essential knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to teach Physics in secondary schools. The curriculum combines university-based learning with classroom placements, ensuring trainees become confident, qualified educators by graduation. Students can choose between two qualification levels - both recognized teaching credentials, with the postgraduate option enabling accelerated entry into Master's programs: Professional Graduate Certificate in Education or Postgraduate Certificate in Education. Participants select their preferred qualification during the course, which upon successful completion leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) recommendation.
The program focuses on developing subject expertise within the National Curriculum framework, teaching methodologies for diverse learners, and professional competencies specific to Physics education. This encompasses child development across cognitive, social, and physical domains, along with classroom management skills and personal attributes essential for effective teaching.
All participants complete a module exploring broader educational contexts, preparing them for their initial teaching roles while establishing a foundation for ongoing professional growth. The module features combined lectures and seminars, often trainee-led with tutor guidance, helping participants meet Teachers' Standards by connecting educational theory with classroom practice.
