This biology teaching program equips graduates with the essential knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to teach Biology in secondary schools. The curriculum combines university-based learning with classroom placements, ensuring trainees graduate as confident, classroom-ready professionals.
Students can pursue the qualification at two levels, both recognized teaching credentials. The postgraduate option enables accelerated entry into Master's programs: Professional Graduate Certificate in Education or Postgraduate Certificate in Education. Participants select their preferred pathway during the course, with successful completion leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) recommendation.
The program focuses on developing expertise in teaching Biology within the National Curriculum framework. It covers pedagogical principles for diverse learners, professional values, subject mastery, and understanding child development across cognitive, social, and physical domains. Trainees also acquire classroom management skills and strategies for creating effective learning environments.
All participants complete a module exploring broader educational contexts, preparing them for their first teaching position while establishing a foundation for ongoing professional growth. The module features whole-cohort lectures and trainee-led seminars with tutor support, helping participants meet Teachers' Standards by connecting educational theory with classroom practice.
