This program covers both theoretical and practical aspects of species conservation through lectures, hands-on exercises, and field studies that integrate animal biology with conservation science. You'll examine pressing global issues like wildlife habitat destruction while learning conservation strategies. The curriculum provides a solid foundation in ecological concepts while teaching practical skills for wildlife monitoring and habitat management.
Our expansive 200-hectare countryside campus serves as an exceptional training ground, allowing you to apply classroom knowledge through real-world ecology projects. Many courses incorporate fieldwork on campus, including comprehensive species and habitat assessments. Instruction comes from faculty with extensive conservation and ecological research backgrounds.
The program features multiple immersive field study opportunities, including international trips to South Africa, southern Spain, and Pembrokeshire. These excursions let you study diverse ecosystems - from African savannas to mountain habitats and coastal environments.
Additional local and national field trips expose you to important conservation sites. First-year studies include observing native species like red deer and grey seals, along with exotic animals such as Barbary macaques.
Between your second and final year, you can opt for a year-long professional placement in conservation, allowing you to specialize in your area of interest while gaining valuable career experience.
