You'll study both theoretical and practical aspects of species conservation through diverse teaching methods including lectures, hands-on sessions, and fieldwork. The curriculum blends animal biology and behavioral science with conservation principles, while addressing pressing global issues like habitat destruction and contemporary conservation strategies. This program provides thorough understanding of ecological systems while honing your ability to assess, track, and preserve wildlife and their environments.
The course features numerous engaging field study opportunities. Destinations include South Africa, southern Spain, and Pembrokeshire, where you'll examine the distinctive biodiversity of savannah, mountain, and coastal ecosystems. Additionally, you'll participate in various day trips to significant natural sites locally and nationally, observing species ranging from native British wildlife like red deer and grey seals to exotic creatures such as Barbary macaques.
Between your third and final year, you can opt for a year-long professional placement in the conservation field. This valuable experience allows you to specialize in an area of ecological or conservation interest while significantly enhancing your career prospects.
