Guided by globally recognized specialists, you'll study microbes linked to worldwide health challenges including HIV, tuberculosis, and influenza, with special focus on clinically significant microorganisms.
Our program demonstrates how microbes shape our environment and how microbiological expertise addresses pressing global issues like environmental shifts, contamination, and antimicrobial resistance. Collaborative projects and specialized modules in Biological Techniques and Professional Microbiology Skills will have you designing and conducting original experiments. We prioritize developing your problem-solving abilities from day one through hands-on learning experiences. Career preparation is integrated throughout the curriculum, ensuring you gain both theoretical knowledge and practical job-seeking strategies.
Work placements demonstrate practical competence to potential employers. Our industry partnerships and dedicated Career Services team facilitate valuable internship opportunities. During your third year, we encourage undertaking a year-long placement either internationally or domestically. Previous students have secured positions with organizations like the NHS, Scancell, and GlaxoSmithKline in diverse roles including Research Associate, Microbiology Biomedical Scientist Trainee, and Project Support Officer.
