The Primary Education PGCE equips you with knowledge of educational theories and their practical applications, along with comprehensive insights into the National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2, helping you launch a fulfilling teaching career.

Your university training will address key areas like educational principles, subject expertise, child protection, and teaching philosophies that shape classroom practice. School placements are a major component of the PGCE, with multiple placements scheduled throughout your training. Organized by Northumbria University, these placements involve collaborative and independent tasks, classroom observations, and lesson planning and delivery – all designed to give you solid experience in a teacher's duties.

Throughout your placements, you'll receive guidance from seasoned educators and school leaders. A dedicated Northumbria link tutor will also assist you and your school mentors to maximize your professional growth during these practical experiences.

Upon successfully finishing the PGCE Primary Education program, you'll earn a Qualified Teacher Status recommendation, enabling you to start teaching in schools or other educational settings right away.
