Our adaptable MA Education program, specializing in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), forms part of our refreshed Master's in Education offerings, enabling you to specialize in a crucial area of the education system. Recent educational reforms, including the Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice: 0 to 25 Years (2015), outline the government's goal for equal opportunities for children with SEND—ensuring their academic success from early years through college while fostering fulfilling lives. This framework aligns with the Equality Act (2010) and the TOBY SALT Report (2010), emphasizing that equitable education depends on a teaching workforce equipped for diverse classroom settings, both mainstream and specialized. With evolving Special Education and Disability Regulations, there's growing demand for teacher training programs that address the varied needs of students, alongside ongoing professional development to adapt to changing educational landscapes. This postgraduate program directly addresses these needs. Mainstream school SENCOs must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), while college educators need Qualified Teacher Learning Skills (QTLS), and early years practitioners require Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS). The SENCo component of this program is thus tailored for those with these qualifications. Others completing the program will earn the SEN and Inclusion specialization (reflected in the award title).
