Newcastle and Northeast England serve as an ideal learning environment, boasting over 80 galleries and museums, two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, numerous historic locations, and breathtaking landscapes including National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
This program belongs to the Media, Culture, and Heritage department within the School of Arts and Cultures. You'll join an international community of researchers, curation experts, PhD candidates, and fellow students.
You'll examine professional operations in art institutions while gaining practical and theoretical insights by developing an actual exhibition project.
The curriculum includes four core modules and two electives, with MA candidates completing either a research thesis or a 25-day professional placement.

Qualification Requirements

A 2:1 honours degree, or international equivalent, in any subject.

We will also consider your application if you have non-standard qualifications and/or relevant professional experience in the museum, gallery and heritage sectors. If you have borderline or non-standard qualifications, we may contact you to request more information.

We may ask you to attend an interview either in person, via telephone or Zoom.

IELTS 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 6.0 in writing, 6.0 in speaking, and 5.5 in all other sub-skills).
TOEFL 90 overall (with a minimum of 20 in writing, 22 in speaking, 18 in reading, and 17 in listening).
