The Science Foundation Year serves as a gateway to numerous science degree programs within the Faculty of Science and Technology, including biology, biochemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, biomedical sciences, environmental sciences, environmental health, public health, and nutrition. Comparable foundation year options are available for computing, engineering, sports science, psychology, and law. This program is designed for students who currently don't meet the academic requirements for direct degree entry.

You'll register for a four-year program incorporating the foundation year. Upon successful completion, you'll advance directly to your chosen degree or may transfer to other available science programs. A significant proportion of foundation students progress to degree studies, with many becoming our most accomplished alumni.

The Foundation Year is ideal if:

you lack the necessary qualifications for direct degree entry
you don't yet feel prepared for university-level study
you're returning to education and need support to adapt to academic demands before starting your degree.

Program duration: 1 year foundation plus 3 years degree study (full-time).
