Our one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) equips you to teach drama to secondary students aged 11-16.

You'll explore both theoretical concepts and hands-on techniques essential for drama instruction. The program examines the evolution of drama education throughout the last century. You'll analyze influential practitioners' work and investigate critical topics like drama's educational purpose, its cultural significance, its relationship with democratic values, and theatrical creation through improvisation and scripted performance.
Instruction primarily occurs through practical demonstrations, with most learning happening within your PGCE drama cohort. However, given drama's collaborative nature, you'll also have chances to partner with peers from other disciplines.

You'll discover innovative applications of drama as an educational method across various subjects, enhancing literacy, numeracy, and making historical events more engaging.
Additionally, you'll master lesson planning techniques, learn to evaluate your teaching strategies, understand how educational research can improve your practice, and develop your professional teaching identity.
