This program leads the way in craft creation techniques, designed for hands-on makers seeking to experiment with diverse materials and object forms. It fosters growth in both specialized and mixed-material craftsmanship while examining modern interpretations of craft.
Students can either focus on an established material specialization like glasswork, pottery, fabric arts, or jewelry-making, or push boundaries by redefining craft materials and concepts. The curriculum promotes innovative approaches to creation, helping students cultivate distinctive personal techniques and philosophies rooted in historical, current, and emerging craft traditions, as well as broader cultural influences.
Utilizing Manchester School of Art's comprehensive facilities, you'll explore conventional craft boundaries while developing your unique artistic voice. Beyond traditional workshops for ceramics, glasswork, metalwork, woodcraft, and textile arts, the school offers digital fabrication tools including laser cutters, 3D printers, CNC machines, and digital printing for textiles and ceramics, supported by expert faculty guidance across all craft disciplines.

A minimum of a 2:2 honours degree is required. Equivalent EU/international qualifications are also accepted.
Applicants who do not meet these criteria will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Other professional qualifications or degree disciplines will be considered on merit and/or with relevant professional experience.
We require the submission of a digital portfolio to evidence design practice and research, and may request an interview as part of the application process.
