Social workers frequently operate in demanding environments. You'll collaborate with individuals, their families, and communities to drive transformation and enhance quality of life.
Operating across diverse settings in multiple sectors—including statutory, private, voluntary, and charitable organizations—you'll champion human rights and social justice. The profound impact of social work often becomes clear only through direct experience, which is why you'll undertake two placements during your second and third academic years.
Throughout the program, you'll gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills during placements. Key areas of study will encompass effective communication with diverse needs, interdisciplinary teamwork, and the value of supervision and reflective practice. You'll examine sociological and psychological theories, life course influences from prenatal stages through end-of-life, and the effects of political systems and social policies on welfare provision both in the UK and globally. Additionally, you'll study the legal foundations of social work and how legislation safeguards and supports vulnerable populations.
While social work can be emotionally taxing, our program focuses on developing your resilience and equipping you with strategies to navigate complex situations.
