This combined degree program bridges the gap between two powerful storytelling mediums: the timeless written word and the dynamic world of cinema. Blending the rich heritage of English literature with the contemporary art of film, this program offers a unique academic journey. You'll learn from award-winning authors and scholars in an engaging, supportive environment that fosters intellectual growth, studying literary works across all major forms—prose, poetry, and drama—from the Renaissance to modern times. The film curriculum emphasizes detailed analysis of cinematic techniques, genres, historical influences, and cultural representation, covering influential directors, global film movements, and diverse national cinemas. While Hollywood's dominant film tradition forms a core component, you'll also explore avant-garde and international cinema that expands artistic boundaries. The program includes study abroad options and potential placement years, culminating in a capstone research project during your final year. Our vibrant academic community, led by internationally recognized faculty, thrives within Manchester's thriving creative scene—one of the UK's largest cultural hubs—providing exceptional networking opportunities for aspiring professionals. A Foundation Year pathway is available for this program.
