This program offers an in-depth foundation in studies related to violence against women and children, encompassing theoretical frameworks, research methodologies, policy analysis, and practical applications.
The MA curriculum examines various forms of gender-based violence and child maltreatment, including sexual assault, intimate partner violence, commercial sexual exploitation, human trafficking, and harmful traditional practices. Mirroring the research focus of the Child and Woman Abuse Studies Unit, this degree explores the current understanding of these abuses, their societal contexts, and their interconnections. While primarily examining UK contexts, the course incorporates international perspectives on intellectual discourse, policy development, and intervention strategies.
The curriculum adopts an interdisciplinary approach, primarily rooted in sociological perspectives while incorporating elements from social policy, criminology, and psychological studies.
