Lancaster Medical School operates under Lancaster University, a prestigious and innovative institution. Since 2006, we've educated future doctors, first in partnership with the University of Liverpool and independently since 2012.
Despite expanding our MBChB program, we maintain our status as one of Britain's more intimate medical schools. This scale enables us to deliver personalized education within a nurturing academic community.
Medical studies bring both intellectual and personal hurdles. We've established extensive support systems, both formal and informal, to assist students in adapting to university life and navigating their clinical education journey.
Our MBChB program combines problem-based learning, lectures, and clinical anatomy instruction. Problem-based learning involves small groups of 7-8 students examining realistic patient cases mirroring future medical practice. Groups determine learning objectives, conduct independent research using provided resources, and critically evaluate information. Tutors guide discussions to ensure comprehensive understanding. Advanced years may involve real patients instead of written cases, maintaining the same learning approach. This method effectively builds and applies medical knowledge, equipping students for their careers as physicians.
