Lancaster's combined German Studies and Computing program is delivered through a collaboration between the Department of Languages and Cultures and the School of Computing and Communications.
The German Studies curriculum helps you develop advanced language proficiency while exploring Germany's historical, cultural, social, and political landscape within a worldwide framework. The Computing component emphasizes professional skill-building, with comprehensive coursework in software and systems development.
During your first year, you'll examine the German language and its cultural setting alongside essential computer science and software development fundamentals. You'll also have the opportunity to pursue a secondary subject of interest.
In your second year, you'll enhance your language abilities while delving deeper into German-speaking societies and political systems. You can choose internationally-focused modules that encourage comparative analysis of European and global contexts. These studies complement technical coursework including Databases, Human-Computer Interaction, Networking, and Software Design.
