Lancaster's combined French Studies and Computing program is delivered through a collaboration between the Department of Languages and Cultures and the School of Computing and Communications.
The French Studies curriculum helps you develop advanced language proficiency while providing comprehensive insights into France's historical, cultural, social, and political landscape within a global framework. The Computing component emphasizes professional skill development, with in-depth coursework in software and systems engineering.
During your first year, you'll examine French language and culture alongside core computer science principles and programming fundamentals. You'll also have the opportunity to pursue a secondary subject of interest.
In your second year, you'll enhance your language abilities while delving deeper into Francophone culture, politics, and history. You can choose internationally-focused modules that encourage comparative analysis of European and global contexts. These studies complement technical coursework including Database Systems, Human-Computer Interaction, Network Technologies, and Software Architecture.
