The German Studies and Mathematics combined degree at Lancaster is offered through collaboration between the Department of Languages and Cultures and the Mathematics and Statistics Department.
In the German Studies component, you'll develop advanced language proficiency while examining German-speaking societies within a worldwide framework. The Mathematics portion provides comprehensive training in mathematical principles, with opportunities to focus on pure mathematics or statistical analysis.
During your initial year, you'll examine German language fundamentals alongside cultural studies while completing essential Mathematics coursework. You'll also select a supplementary subject to enhance your primary studies.
In your second year, you'll advance your linguistic abilities while delving deeper into the cultural, political, and historical aspects of German-speaking nations. You'll choose from internationally focused modules that encourage comparative European studies, all while continuing your mathematical education.
Your third year abroad in a German-speaking environment significantly boosts language fluency and cultural awareness, with options including university exchange programs or professional internships.

A Level AAB including A level Mathematics or Further Mathematics grade A OR ABB including A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, at least one of which at grade A. See below for language requirements.
Required Subjects In addition to the Mathematics requirements above, A level German, or if this is to be studied from beginners level, AS grade B or A level grade B in another foreign language, or GCSE grade A or 7 in a foreign language. Native German speakers will not be accepted onto this scheme.
IELTS 6.5 overall with at least 5.5 in each component. TOEFL IBT - 87 overall, minimum of 17 in listening, 18 in reading, 17 in speaking and 20 in writing. Cambridge English: Advanced CAE 176 overall with at least 162 in each element.

International Baccalaureate 35 points overall with 16 points from the best 3 Higher Level subjects including 6 in Mathematics HL(either analysis and approaches or applications and interpretations) and appropriate evidence of language ability
