Lancaster's combined French Studies and Politics program is delivered collaboratively by the Department of Languages and Cultures and the Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion. This course features an international placement during the third year.
The French Studies component enables you to develop advanced language proficiency while thoroughly examining the nation's historical, cultural, social, and political landscape within a global framework. The Politics portion investigates fundamental concepts, themes, and developments that have influenced the modern world.
During your first year, you'll examine French language and culture alongside the foundational Politics module, which covers essential topics including liberal democracy theory and practice, globalization, and international security challenges. You'll also select an optional minor subject.
In your second year, you'll enhance your language abilities while delving deeper into the culture, politics, and history of French-speaking regions. You can choose from internationally focused modules that encourage comparative analysis of European and global contexts, along with a wide selection of Politics electives.
