Lancaster's combined French Studies and Film program is delivered through a collaboration between the Department of Languages and Cultures and the Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA).
The French Studies component helps you develop advanced language proficiency while exploring the nation's historical, cultural, social, and political landscape within a global framework. The Film curriculum allows you to analyze cinema's artistic, societal, and political significance in our increasingly visual and media-driven world, while also exploring connections between contemporary art, theater, design, sound, and film.
During your first year, you'll investigate French language and culture while being introduced to Film Studies. Additionally, you can select a minor subject to complement these studies.
In your second year, you'll enhance your language abilities while delving deeper into the culture, politics, and history of French-speaking regions. You'll also choose modules with an international focus that encourage comparative understanding of European and global contexts, alongside specialized film courses.
