Lancaster University offers a combined Fine Art and Creative Writing degree program, delivered through a partnership between the Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA) and the English and Creative Writing Department. This interdisciplinary course is perfect for academically strong students with creative talents who wish to explore both visual arts and literary expression.
The Creative Writing component features instruction from published authors, blending lectures, literary analysis, practical exercises, and workshop discussions. First-year students take an Introduction to Creative Writing foundation course, followed by specialized modules in subsequent years covering areas like Poetry Composition, Short Story Craft, or Nonfiction Writing.
The Fine Art curriculum allows students to combine practical studio work with theoretical art studies throughout their degree. From foundation year to graduation, students hone their technical abilities across diverse media including traditional painting, sculpture, digital arts, and mixed-media approaches. The program emphasizes authentic artistic development over commercial illustration, encouraging students to cultivate their unique creative voice. Taught by practicing artists and published art historians, this program equips graduates with valuable skills for advanced study or professional creative careers.
