Our department oversees research spanning a diverse array of subjects in Greek, Roman, and Near Eastern history, archaeology, and art, along with Greek and Latin literature, philosophy, ancient languages, and reception studies. We're expanding our focus to include Neo Latin studies, Roman mosaics and their creators, ancient religious practices, disability studies, and Greek theater and performance. Collaborative research initiatives with the College's Department of Digital Humanities and the British Museum are currently thriving. Additionally, we partner with the Centre for Hellenic Studies, which unites Classics with Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies to host distinguished public lectures, international conferences, workshops, and seminars by renowned scholars. Our department boasts an impressive track record of securing significant research funding. Recent projects supported by the AHRC, British Academy, and Leverhulme Trust include digitizing the Prosopography of the Roman Republic, exploring ancient stone carving techniques through "The Art of Making in Antiquity," studying Black Sea region inscriptions, and the "Classics & Class" initiative.
