Our specialized Master's in National Security Studies offers an intensive exploration of UK and global security frameworks. This program connects security professionals from both government and corporate sectors with graduate students pursuing policy careers. The curriculum examines coordinated government approaches to security issues across critical areas such as strategic planning, crisis resilience, digital security, counter-terrorism, military and diplomatic affairs, and ethical governance in security policy. Students will analyze these topics through both academic theory and real-world policy applications before tackling current international security dilemmas via case studies and research projects.
Since the 9/11 attacks, the UK's national security infrastructure has undergone substantial transformation in its interdepartmental coordination and system-wide operations. The core curriculum follows a structured, theme-based progression, covering organizational frameworks, operational procedures, analytical methods, and practical implementations (through case studies) to develop expertise in modern national security strategy as practiced internationally.
