Our Philosophy and Modern Languages BA program provides an extensive selection of modules in both disciplines, encompassing literature, linguistics, cinema, history, philosophical concepts, political and social theories, along with specialized areas like philosophy of mind, science, and ancient philosophy.
The Philosophy Department excels particularly in philosophy of mind, philosophy of science, and ancient philosophy. Additionally, we offer a diverse array of modules, including specialized subjects such as Indian philosophy and medieval philosophical studies.

Key advantages You can pursue French, German, Spanish, or Portuguese language studies either after completing A-levels (or equivalent) or starting from beginner level (ab initio).
Our Philosophy Department ranks 4th in Europe and 8th globally (QS World Rankings by Subject 2020). The mandatory year abroad in a French, German, Portuguese, or Spanish-speaking nation allows complete cultural immersion and language mastery. We maintain exchange partnerships with numerous universities across Europe, North America, and South America. We're pleased to announce King's commitment to funding all year-abroad travel expenses for language degrees through at least summer 2026.

Please note that A-level General Studies, Critical Thinking, Thinking Skills and Global Perspectives are not accepted by King's as one of your A levels.

International Baccalaureate
35 points including 665 at Higher Level.

Standard requirements
The Access to Higher Education Diploma must be 60 credits in total.

Access to Higher Education Diploma with 45 Level 3 credits overall: 33 credits must be from units awarded at Distinction, with 12 at Merit.

The Access to Higher Education Diploma should be in a relevant subject Humanities or similar - to be considered.

IELTS (Academic) - 7.0 overall with a minimum of 6.5 in each skill.
TOEFL iBT - 100 overall with a minimum of 25 in writing and 23 in each of the other skills.
Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 69 overall with a minimum of 62 in each communicative skill.
