The clinical science team facilitates diverse research initiatives spanning from hospital-based clinical studies at the University of North Staffordshire Hospital and the Guy Hilton Research Centre, to fundamental scientific investigations focused on translating discoveries into clinical applications ("from lab to patient care").
Research Focus
Neurology research areas encompass:
- Genetic factors influencing multiple sclerosis susceptibility and progression
- Vision research comparing functional impairments through psychophysical testing with optic nerve pathophysiology and brain imaging
- Cognitive impairments post-stroke; cerebral lateralization; neurological effects of electrolyte imbalance; stroke interventions; chronic fatigue syndrome
- Stem cell potential for neuronal development, offering therapeutic possibilities for Parkinson's and Huntington's diseases
