Participate in a significant bioscience research initiative through our Bioscience MRes program, crafted to equip you with fundamental subject expertise, adaptable research capabilities, and immersive hands-on training in cutting-edge laboratories—preparing you for careers in research or industry. Focus your studies on one of four key research disciplines: glycobiology, infectious diseases, neuroscience, or structural biology.
Program overview
Bioscience research is crucial for improving human, animal, plant, and environmental health—from decoding protein structures to combating worldwide health crises. Our Bioscience MRes allows you to fully engage in a research setting, whether as a terminal degree, a stepping stone to PhD studies, or a gateway to varied professional opportunities.
The program centers on an extensive independent research project within these specializations:
- Glycobiology
- Infectious disease
- Neuroscience
- Structural biology
Your project may be conducted at partner institutions domestically or abroad, broadening your laboratory experience in your chosen field. This depends on project specifics and your supervisor's research connections.
First-semester coursework builds essential competencies through modules covering:
- Literature review techniques
- Advanced research methods
- Proposal development
- Study design
Your research project will enhance your investigative abilities with guidance from faculty experts who will expand your knowledge of theoretical frameworks, methodologies, and practical bioscience applications. You'll design a research plan, conduct in-depth studies, interpret findings within existing scholarship, and present results through:
- Thesis
- Oral defense
- Poster sessions
- Conference presentations
The program develops transferable skills in:
- Laboratory research
- Analytical thinking
