This Master of Science program, offered at a premier European hub for marine research, is delivered by a faculty of globally renowned specialists. It emphasizes the vital connection between marine resources, fisheries, ocean preservation, and human communities.
With expanding global populations and climate shifts transforming marine ecosystems, fisheries face mounting challenges—particularly in coastal developing regions where fish serves as the primary protein source. Yet fisheries also affect marine biodiversity, habitats, ecological functions, and species like marine mammals, seabirds, and reptiles. Marine conservation thus becomes crucial for sustainable resource use, requiring ecosystem-based management strategies. These challenges align with international and national policies addressing sustainable development objectives, including food security, human well-being, aquatic ecosystems, poverty reduction, and public health.
Students will gain comprehensive training to develop a holistic view of modern natural resource management, fisheries science, and conservation biology—exploring their interconnected nature through combined natural and social science methodologies.
