The MSc in Brewing and Distilling with Entrepreneurship combines advanced technical training in brewing and distilling with essential business skills, preparing you for diverse career paths in these industries or launching your own ventures. This program equips you to tackle both technical and entrepreneurial challenges across malting, brewing, and distilling operations. Your studies will cover everything from core brewing sciences and chemical engineering to elective business and production management courses, opening doors to careers in production, sales, marketing, or technical roles.
Throughout this master's program, you'll master fundamental principles, theories, and methodologies while gaining insight into contemporary industry challenges. You'll examine the sector's global and local dynamics, including regulatory, ethical, and health/safety considerations surrounding alcoholic beverage production and distribution. The curriculum offers both required and elective courses, allowing you to tailor your education to specific interests and career aspirations.
You'll develop expertise across multiple disciplines including cereal science, fermentation microbiology, process engineering, business management, quality control, and flavor chemistry. The program also addresses critical policy, legal, and ethical considerations in alcoholic beverage manufacturing and marketing. Beyond technical training, you'll acquire business acumen for leadership roles through optional courses in management, finance, sustainability, and entrepreneurship.
Practical learning occurs in our dedicated brewing and distilling facilities, where you'll apply theoretical knowledge to develop industry-ready skills. The program holds accreditation from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling (IBD), offering graduates potential exemptions from certain professional qualifications. For MSc entry, candidates must hold a 2:1 Honours Degree, or equivalent qualification from a British or overseas university, in a science or engineering subject (for example, Biological Sciences, Chemistry or Chemical/Mechanical Engineering). We will accept 2:2 in relevant subject areas in conjunction with relevant work experience. The minimum English language requirement for entry to this programme is IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent) with no score lower than 5.5, TOEFL iBT 90 (Reading 22, Listening 21, Speaking 23, Writing 23).
