The Center for Enhanced Oil Recovery and CO2 Solutions (previously known as the Hydrocarbon Recovery Mechanisms initiative) explores different hydrocarbon extraction techniques to deepen knowledge of key reservoir mechanisms and generate data essential for optimizing field production planning and operations.
The Center employs specialized lab methods to study reservoir fluid movement across multiple scales. Pore-level flow visualization under high pressure is conducted using three advanced micromodel setups, yielding both qualitative insights and measurable data about reservoir behavior. Four core testing systems that replicate reservoir conditions, equipped with X-ray saturation measurement tools, generate both site-specific and broadly applicable information. Theoretical and computational modeling of porous media flow, informed by internal experimental findings, helps extend research outcomes to wider applications.
