Studies in textile science and technology have evolved to mirror the growth of the technical textiles field, while continuing to focus on essential conventional textiles. The creation of the TechniTex Faraday Partnership marks a significant milestone and has secured substantial funding. Technical textiles include diverse functional items, with medical and healthcare applications being particularly important.
The School recently founded the Biomedical Textiles Research Centre (BTRC). Its investigations cover fiber treatments to enhance biocompatibility for medical and dental uses, as well as developing textile-based membranes for cell cultivation.
