Our MA (Hons) Modern Languages (Interpreting and Translating) program enables you to master two languages at degree level while spending a year abroad at two of Heriot-Watt University's partner institutions – immersing yourself in the languages and cultures you're studying. You can select two languages from: Chinese, French, German, Spanish, or British Sign Language (BSL). This degree in Modern Languages Interpreting and Translating equips you for careers demanding advanced linguistic, communicative, and intercultural abilities, while also educating you about the professional environments where these skills are applied. You'll explore specialized interpreting techniques for diverse settings including healthcare, business, legal proceedings, and conferences. Alongside your BSL, Chinese, French, German, or Spanish studies, you'll engage in applied language studies – a hallmark of Heriot-Watt University – cultivating sought-after expertise in interpretation and translation.
