For those aspiring to become professional solicitors, the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) serves as the primary pathway into the legal field. Recognized by the Law Society of Scotland, this LLB program, combined with additional training, forms the foundation for entering the profession. The curriculum focuses on imparting knowledge about Scotland's legal framework and system. Students will enhance their legal expertise and abilities by exploring key areas such as private, public, criminal, and commercial law. Starting in the second year, students can choose risk management modules, culminating in an LLB Bachelor of Laws with Risk degree. As risk management becomes increasingly vital in legal practice, this specialized pathway opens diverse career opportunities in this expanding sector.
GCU's LLB alumni have successfully joined prominent Scottish law firms like Brodies LLP, CMS Cameron McKenna LLP, Maclay Murray & Spens LLP, Digby Brown LLP, and Thompsons. Others have built careers as solicitors in local government or the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service. Some graduates have even practiced as Scottish-qualified solicitors across Europe, working in both private firms and public sector roles.
