Students in the GCU Pathways program begin their journey at Glasgow Caledonian University by enrolling in the MEng Electrical Power Engineering (GCU Pathways). During the initial two years, they pursue an HND in Electrical Engineering at Glasgow Kelvin College before transitioning to the MEng Electrical Power Engineering program in their third year.
With the growing significance of reliable electricity generation, transmission, and distribution, power system engineers are highly sought after. The shift toward renewable energy sources like wind, wave, and tidal power will drive major expansions in transmission and distribution networks. Our program equips students with a solid foundation in sustainable energy, positioning them to thrive in this rapidly expanding field.
Developed in partnership with industry leaders, this program prioritizes hands-on learning. It delivers comprehensive training in electrical, mechanical, renewable, and electronic engineering, complemented by specialized coursework in power engineering and power electronics. Students benefit from state-of-the-art facilities, including advanced computer-aided engineering labs and cutting-edge electrical and electronic laboratories. The curriculum includes optional industrial placements—one during Year 3 (Trimester B) and/or a 48-week opportunity after Year 3, though these placements are neither mandatory nor guaranteed.
