Our academic programs, research excellence, and global standing are exceptional: we consistently rank among the UK's top two Archaeology departments (including in the Research Excellence Framework 2014, The Guardian University Guide 2018, and Complete University Guide 2018) and among the world's top four (QS World University Rankings 2017). We boast diverse research strengths, particularly in British, European, Middle Eastern, and South Asian archaeology, as well as scientific and theoretical aspects of the field. Students can pursue MA, MSc, MPhil, and PhD degrees across various specializations through full-time or part-time study. You'll collaborate directly with our faculty experts while utilizing comprehensive research resources. We provide methodological training to support your research development. Postgraduates are expected to present their work through departmental seminars, workshops, conferences, and publications. After three years of full-time study (or six years part-time), you'll complete an original 100,000-word thesis demonstrating independent research capabilities on a significant scholarly contribution.
